In a perfect world (as seen through the eyes of an information analyst or a data scientist), all information is interconnected and can be interpreted without ambiguity. The semantic web is certainly a step in that direction. More in particular, standards such as RDF open the door to map our information in such a way that others can use it and integrate it into their information models - and we can use theirs.
